Welcome to the Small Stones Festival of the Arts - 2020 COVID-19 Edition

Awards Note: Jurors' Choice Awards were also given to each of the First and Second Prizewinners in each category, alhtough this gallery only supports showing one prize per work.

 

  1. VIEWING - Click on an image for a larger view.
  2. NAVIGATION - The images are sorted with prizewinners first (note that most prizes will be awarded on October 23), then alphabetically by artist last name. Note that there are 25 pages in the gallery - use the page selector to see more entries.
  3. SEARCHING - You can enter an artist's first or last name in the search box to find a given artist.
  4. FILTERING - You can create a filtered view to see only paintings or photography by selecting a choice in the Category Filter box. You can see only those entries selected by our jury for inclusion in our printed catalog by using the Tag Filter.  The Tag Filter also allows you to view entries by members of the Blackstone Valley Art Association or Worcester County Camera Club.
  5. VOTING - Voting is now closed.
  6. PURCHASING ARTWORK - This year, Small Stones Festival is not directly selling any of the artwork on exhibition.  If you wish to purchase an artwork, some of the works include a web address for the artist, allowing you to contact them directly via their website.  For others, we will relay any messages sent to artists@smallstonesfestival.org.  Specify which artist you wish to contact and provide your contact information.

Artist statement: My art involves capturing an image with a camera, and then deliberately processing that image, until there is a sense of harmonic alignment with both the original object and my own personal witnessing experience. The final result (I would like to think) is a furthering of the original Universe’s creation process, and (perhaps in some small way) an expansion of the object’s potentiality of Being.

Artist statement: While traveling in Italy several years ago I was struck by the contrast of tourists shopping, eating, and having a great time with others seemingly living on the edges of society seeking help from the more fortunate. I had just turned the corner having passed the Gucci store to see this woman resting in a doorway.

Artist statement: I was drawn to the crowd on the boardwalk at Hampton Beach on a sunny late June afternoon...the wind and sunglasses and the background food vendors all add to capturing the essence of the afternoon. I can still smell the Italian sausages cooking!

Artist statement: Doors has always sparked an interest to me artistically, by their shapes, size, and colors. The mystery of what could be on the other side can only spark one's imagination. I often find myself taking random photos of doors and doorways while on vacation or on a random stroll. This painting captures what I saw and felt at that moment. Artist statement: It wasn't until I visited the Statue of Liberty and viewed her up close that she had taken on a whole new meaning to me. After seeing the greenish patina caused by oxidation from years of weathered copper forming around the seams and rivets, it spoke to me. So much so, that it appeared like Lady Liberty was crying. Knowing what the world is going through right now with all the injustices facing our nation; I only see tears staining her face as she looks towards us to change.
