Welcome to the Small Stones Festival of the Arts - 2020 COVID-19 Edition

Awards Note: Jurors' Choice Awards were also given to each of the First and Second Prizewinners in each category, alhtough this gallery only supports showing one prize per work.

 

  1. VIEWING - Click on an image for a larger view.
  2. NAVIGATION - The images are sorted with prizewinners first (note that most prizes will be awarded on October 23), then alphabetically by artist last name. Note that there are 25 pages in the gallery - use the page selector to see more entries.
  3. SEARCHING - You can enter an artist's first or last name in the search box to find a given artist.
  4. FILTERING - You can create a filtered view to see only paintings or photography by selecting a choice in the Category Filter box. You can see only those entries selected by our jury for inclusion in our printed catalog by using the Tag Filter.  The Tag Filter also allows you to view entries by members of the Blackstone Valley Art Association or Worcester County Camera Club.
  5. VOTING - Voting is now closed.
  6. PURCHASING ARTWORK - This year, Small Stones Festival is not directly selling any of the artwork on exhibition.  If you wish to purchase an artwork, some of the works include a web address for the artist, allowing you to contact them directly via their website.  For others, we will relay any messages sent to artists@smallstonesfestival.org.  Specify which artist you wish to contact and provide your contact information.

Artist statement: I love photography on the macro level. I noticed this tiny snail as I watered the plants in my garden one evening. I watched it move along the leaves, slowly and purposefully. I wanted to capture one small moment of the micro world in which it lives.

Artist statement: This is a photo that I took early one morning at the pond across from my home in Vermont. It was mesmerizing to watch the bird take off and see how the ripples and splashes created an interesting texture on the surface of the water.

Artist statement: Ravens are among my favorite birds. They are intelligent, social, and sentient creatures. I captured this image at the Vermont Institute of Natural Science, an organization dedicated to the rehabilitation of birds of prey.

Artist statement: I'm 10 years old and live in Shrewsbury, MA. I draw as much as I can and on our driveway when it's dry. I absolutely love Fall and apple picking. It's one of my favorite seasons, mostly because of all the smells that are coming from different foods.

Artist statement: This is from my series called the Salmon River Project. I grew up around the Salmon River in Pulaski, NY where fishing is a big draw, I usually avoid the town during Salmon season but decided to go in and bring my camera to check out what was going on. While looking over the river from a great vantage point, this drama unfolded before me and was relieved the fly fishermen were near by to rescue the man being swept away by the current..and was also glad I had my camera to catch it!
