Welcome to the Small Stones Festival of the Arts - 2020 COVID-19 Edition
Awards Note: Jurors' Choice Awards were also given to each of the First and Second Prizewinners in each category, alhtough this gallery only supports showing one prize per work.

- SEARCHING - You can enter an artist's first or last name in the search box to find a given artist.
- FILTERING - You can create a filtered view to see only paintings or photography by selecting a choice in the Category Filter box. You can see only those entries selected by our jury for inclusion in our printed catalog by using the Tag Filter. The Tag Filter also allows you to view entries by members of the Blackstone Valley Art Association or Worcester County Camera Club.
- VOTING - Voting is now closed.
- PURCHASING ARTWORK - This year, Small Stones Festival is not directly selling any of the artwork on exhibition. If you wish to purchase an artwork, some of the works include a web address for the artist, allowing you to contact them directly via their website. For others, we will relay any messages sent to artists@smallstonesfestival.org. Specify which artist you wish to contact and provide your contact information.

Artist statement: I photographed this gorgeous Banyan Tree at Marie Selby Gardens, Sarasota FL. The light was creating amazing shadows on the roots. Didn't see the small lizard in the foreground until I printed the photo.

Artist statement: While visiting Fruitlands Museum, Harvard, MA, I spotted an old tree who bark had been pecked in many places mostly likely by woodpeckers. It made an amazing image that reminded me of an owl's face.

Artist statement: I'm fond of frogs. I used to have fun catching them as a child. As an adult I know them as a reminder of rebirth and new beginnings. I captured this image at the pond near my home one summer's day. It is painted in oil on canvas stretched over board. The background is an abstract created well before the subject came to me.

Autumn at Walden Pond

Artist statement: I went to Walden Pond the day after Halloween 2015 because I really wanted to be somewhere in Nature. I took a lot of pictures that day, but this one popped out at me as soon as I uploaded it to my computer. I had been disappointed that it was cloudy that day, but it actually made the colors of the trees stand out more. It's a good representation of what the day was like for me: peaceful, colorful, in harmony with Nature. It's one of my very favorite photographs I've taken.

This Pond Ain't Big Enough for the Both of Us

Artist statement: On one of my trips to Hager Pond in Marlboro this spring I watched as an aggressive male mute swan made his presence known all over the pond that afternoon. I had never seen this behavior before and it reminded me of a Wild West movie. The swan was actively chasing after a Canada Goose and it was interesting to capture the interaction that day.

The Lookout

Artist statement: This photo was taken with my iphone while I was out on a walk recently. I saw a crow perched on the top of an interesting piece of the roof architecture looking out while a few other crows were approaching the roof of the building. I edited the photo using a mobile app from Carbon which has "Acid Trips" filters. I really liked this particular edit filter. The result reminded me of a bohemian album cover with the colors and the contrast of the lookout crow in it.
