Artist statement: Recently I began staying longer to absorb the environment around me and then shooting. This little buddy stayed right close to me or flew off and returned. You can see the progression of our friendship in the photographs. This is the last and best pose.

Artist statement: Artist Statement I’m feeling a true urgency to paint -especially now- from instinct, observation, and gut responses-in the practice of Direct Oil Painting. Painting for me reveals: searches and surprises, methods from master teachers, sensibilities and masses of paint. The figure is most compelling to me, as is the paint itself. Together they give attention to things that matter. It’s all in there- and I’m all in.

Artist statement: I spent a lot of time in my courtyard garden during COVID and my little pond brought me great pleasure. There are a few frogs and they often would come out and sit on the stones with messages, often giving me just what I needed that day. In this case, it was courage to get through those toughest months of isolation.
